AT THE INITIAL STAGES:

Many people handle their own case at the initial level, which is the initial application.  If you desire to do that, you can file your own application in one of two ways.  1) You can call your local social security office and set up a telephone appointment to have an employee of the SSA ask you the questions that are in the application, which includes itemizing your medical problems and listing all hospitals and doctors that you have seen recently.
